A Regina man has been arrested after an investigation into the theft of hundreds of pounds of copper pipe and a number of brass valves from a construction site in the city.
In a media release Tuesday, the Regina Police Service said the items were taken from a building construction site in the Gladmer Park neighbourhood.
Police got a call Oct. 5 from the owner of the building on Anson Road, which had been broken into sometime between Oct. 2 and Oct. 5. Those responsible had removed hundreds of pounds of copper pipe — which reportedly had been cut into one- to two-foot lengths — as well as a number of brass valves.
The police investigation contacted metal recycling businesses, which led to the recovery of some of the brass valves. It also resulted in the identification of a potential suspect.
Officers executed a search warrant Thursday at a house in the 2200 block of Winnipeg Street, but they didn’t find any stolen property. A 49-year-old man was arrested at the house and was charged with possession of property obtained by crime under $5,000 and breach of probation.
