Today’s COVID Update:
There are 509 active cases of COVID-19 in Saskatchewan.
Twenty-one people are in hospital, including three in intensive care units.
The Saskatoon area reported 21 new cases and the Regina region had four.
New cases in Saskatchewan: 60.
The new cases reported Thursday increased the province’s total to date to 2,558.
In addition to the new cases in Saskatoon and Regina, there also were 13 in the north-central, six in the far northeast, four in the northwest, three in the northeast, two each in the far northwest and southeast, and one in each of the central-west, central-east, southwest and south-central zones.
The residence of one case is pending.
Two Saskatchewan residents who tested positive in other provinces have been added to Saskatchewan’s total case count.
There were 22 recoveries reported Thursday, increasing that total so far to 2,024. To date, 25 residents of the province have died after testing positive for COVID-19.
Eighteen people are receiving inpatient care in hospital, with 10 in the Saskatoon area, six in the north-central zone and two in the Regina region.
Two people are in ICU in Saskatoon and one individual is in ICU in Regina.
The 21 hospitalizations due to COVID is the most the province has had.
The total number of cases comprises 1,276 community contacts, 682 without any known exposures, 335 travellers and 265 that are being investigated by public health.
To date, 82 health-care workers have contracted the virus.
There have been 559 cases from the Saskatoon area, 476 from the south zone (228 southwest, 211 south-central, 37 southeast), 464 in the north region (159 northwest, 207 north-central, 98 northeast), 424 from the far north (374 far northwest, 50 far northeast), 349 from the central area (196 central-west, 153 central-east) and 284 in the Regina region.
The locations of two cases are pending.
To date, 897 cases have been in the 20-to-39 age range, 741 have involved people between the ages of 40 and 59, 475 have been among people 19 and under, 368 have been ages 60 to 79, and 77 have been aged 80 and over.
The 2,190 tests done in the province Wednesday increased the total to date to 240,203.
Saskatchewan’s per-capita testing rate was 163,966 people per million population. The national rate was 235,543 people tested per million population.
According to the provincial government, 44,269 tests had been done as of Monday on children up to the age of 19. Those tests have resulted in a 1.0 per cent positivity rate, matching the provincial positivity rate.
The Ministry of Health said a total of 431 positive cases have been found in that age group since March, with 83 between the ages of zero and four, 164 between the ages of five and 13, and 184 from ages 14 to 19.
