SYDNEY, N.S. — Defenceman Nathan Larose scored once and set up two more as the Cape Breton Eagles topped the Halifax Mooseheads 5-3 on Friday in Quebec Major Junior Hockey League action.
Emile Hegarty-Aubin, Ryan Francis, Connor Trenholm and Felix Lafrance also found the back of the net for Cape Breton (3-4-0), which trailed 3-2 before reeling off three straight third-period goals.
William Grimard made 24 saves for the win.
Jordan Dumais, Brendan Tomilson and Zachary L’Heureux found the back of the net for Halifax (2-4-1). Cole McLaren stopped 33-of-37 shots in defeat.
The QMJHL’s Maritimes Division is the only division currently in action.
Quebec-based teams in the QMJHL have been suspended from regular-season play since Oct. 14 because of rising cases of COVID-19 in the province. The suspension is in effect until at least Oct. 28.
The league, which opened its season on Oct. 2, had outbreaks on two teams in its opening week. The Blainville-Boisbriand Armada announced they had 18 positive tests, while the Sherbrooke Phoenix said they had eight after the two teams played each other twice on the first weekend of the season. The Drummondville Voltigeurs became the third team to suspended team in-person activities on Thursday after a player tested positive.
