The Saskatchewan Health Authority (SHA) has declared COVID-19 outbreaks at two Saskatoon high schools.
In a release, Saskatoon Public Schools said it was notified by the SHA about a positive COVID-19 case at Tommy Douglas Collegiate.
This is the second positive case at the school — the first was identified Oct. 18. Since there are two cases, the SHA declared an outbreak at the school.
Earlier on Sunday, Saskatoon Public Schools said the SHA had also declared an outbreak at Marion Graham Collegiate.
“The SHA will be declaring an outbreak at the school. Communication about the positive cases has been shared with the specific classrooms at the school, as well as the entire school community,” the school division’s release reads.
In addition to the outbreak, another positive COVID-19 case was found at Centennial Collegiate.
“As in every case, the SHA is conducting contact tracing. To protect the privacy of individuals, we are not able to share or discuss further details,” the release reads.
Classes will resume at the schools on Tuesday. Monday is a previously scheduled professional development day.
Public health officials will directly contact individuals who may have been in close contact, but the school division said the risk of exposure to non-close contacts is “very low.”
Saskatoon Public Schools has had 16 positive COVID-19 cases at 14 schools.
