Saskatchewan has set a new single-day high for COVID-19 testing.
In a media release, the Ministry of Health announced 3,434 tests were done Monday, exceeding the previous daily high of 3,049 tests set Oct. 11.
The ministry also announced there were 58 new cases to report around the province Tuesday, the fourth straight day with at least 50 new cases. Six of the past seven days have had new case totals exceeding 50.
The cases reported Tuesday increased the province’s total to date to 2,841.
The Saskatoon area recorded 29 of the new cases, moving its total so far to 665. That number stood at 393 on Oct. 1.
There also were eight new cases reported in the northwest, six in the north-central zone, five in the Regina region, three in the central-east area, two in each of the northeast and southeast zones, and one in each of the far northwest and far northeast areas.
The location of one new case is pending.
In addition to the total to date in Saskatoon, there also have been 537 cases in the north (175 northwest, 249 north-central, 113 northeast), 489 from the south area (228 southwest, 211 south-central, 50 southeast), 436 in the far north (382 far northwest, 54 far northeast), 369 in the central zone (196 central-west, 173 central-east) and 342 in the Regina region.
The hometowns of three cases currently aren’t known.
There also were 56 recoveries reported, increasing that total so far to 2,164. To date, 25 people have died in the province due to COVID complications.
The number of active cases being reported in Saskatchewan is 652, including 190 in the Saskatoon area, 128 in the north-central zone and 105 in the Regina region.
There are 24 people in hospital, with six in intensive care. Four of those people are in ICU in the Saskatoon area, with one in the north-central zone and one in the Regina region.
There are 18 people — nine in the Saskatoon area, seven in the north and two in the Regina area — receiving inpatient care.
The total number of cases comprises 1,392 community contacts, 730 cases without any known exposures, 368 cases that remain under investigation, and 351 travellers.
The number of health-care workers to contract the virus stands at 87, up 14 so far this month.
The total number of cases in the 20-to-39 age group was 1,016, an increase of nearly 400 this month. There were 627 cases in that age group on Sept. 30.
There also have been 804 cases between the ages of 40 and 59, 561 involving people 19 and under, 380 among those 60 to 79 years of age, and 80 in the 80-and-over age range.
The record number of tests done Monday increased Saskatchewan’s total so far to 253,675.
