The number of new COVID-19 cases reported in Saskatchewan has exceeded 50 for a fifth straight day.
There were 67 new cases reported Wednesday, marking the seventh time in the past eight days the number was 54 or over. The province has reported double-digit totals of new cases for 23 straight days.
The Saskatoon area recorded 25 new cases Wednesday, with the Regina region next at 15. They were followed by the northeast area (11), the northwest (seven), the north-central zone (seven) and the southeast zone (two).
One case reported Tuesday without a known location was assigned to the north-central area.
The total number of cases in Saskatchewan to date is now 2,908.
There were 53 recoveries reported Wednesday, increasing that total so far to 2,217. To date, 25 residents of the province have died after testing positive for COVID-19.
The number of active cases being reported in Saskatchewan is now 666.
There are 20 people in hospital, with six in intensive care. Four of those people are in Saskatoon, with one each in the Regina and north-central areas.
Of the 14 people receiving inpatient care, nine are in the Saskatoon area, four are in the north and one is in the Regina area.
The number of health-care workers to contract the virus increased by four Wednesday and now stands at 91.
The total number of cases comprises 1,436 community contacts, 745 without any known exposures, 372 that remain under investigation by local public health officials, and 355 travellers.
There have been 1,038 cases in the 20-to-39 age range, 824 between the ages of 40 and 59, 386 from ages 60 to 79, 580 involving people 19 and under, and 80 in the 80-and-over range.
To date, there have been 690 cases in the Saskatoon area, 563 from the north zone (182 northwest, 257 north-central, 124 northeast), 491 from the south (228 southwest, 211 south-central, 52 southeast), 436 from the far north (382 far northwest, 54 far northeast), 369 in the central area (196 central-west, 173 central-east) and 357 in the Regina region.
The hometowns of two cases are still pending.
There were 2,410 tests performed in Saskatchewan on Tuesday, increasing the total to date to 256,082.
The province also corrected the number of tests performed Monday. There were 3,431 tests done, which is still the highest single-day total recorded in Saskatchewan.
