The Moose Jaw Police Service is investigating the murder of a 33-year-old man — the city’s first murder of 2020.
According to a police media release, officers responded Wednesday at about 3:20 p.m., to the 0 block of Stadacona Street West for a report of an assault.
Upon arrival, police and paramedics found a man who had been stabbed. He died at the scene.
The victim has been identified as Shaun Holmes of Moose Jaw.
The investigation led police to the 400 block of Ominica Street East, where the 33-year-old suspect had barricaded himself in a residence.
“After extensive efforts were made for the suspect to surrender himself, assistance was obtained from the RCMP Emergency Response Unit (ERT),” the release said. “At approximately 3 a.m. (Thursday) morning, RCMP ERT members entered the residence and arrested the male without further incident.”
Vincent William Pickens of Moose Jaw has been charged with second-degree murder and several breaches of court orders.
The police are asking anyone who saw the stabbing or has information about it to call them at 306-694-7600.
