11:00 – The Northern Village of Buffalo Narrows passed a bylaw this year banning anyone from running for elected office if they have a criminal record or owe money on utilities or back taxes. Sandy Erikson, who attempted to run for mayor but was disqualified due to outstanding taxes, says the Village of about 1,200 passed the bylaw quickly and secretly, and have been using it as a cudgel to prevent challenges against the incumbents. Erikson and other concerned residents collected more than 420 signatures on a petition to quash the bylaw, which she says led to at least 14 candidates being disqualified from running. She joins Gormley to tell us more.
