Jamie Nye: Orr and Nicklaus tested their biggest fans by not sticking to sports

It started Wednesday night when Jack Nicklaus endorsed Donald Trump and then it was Friday morning when a newspaper ad came out that saw Bobby Orr doing the same.

Two giants in their sport, endorsing the Republican candidate for the presidency. Yes, Donald Trump is someone I would never endorse to lead … well … anything, but Jack Nicklaus is still the greatest golfer ever and Bobby Orr is still the greatest defenceman ever.

Yes, I get it. Trump is a piece of work. He has stated and done things which make it tough to understand why anyone would actually support him. But, he’s still the guy that leads a party that gives more tax breaks to rich elites like Nicklaus and Orr than the Democrats’ Joe Biden.

So, sure, Orr and Nicklaus will check their morals for money, like coaches and owners have for years for wins.

Sports is never a great place to go if you’re looking to find high moral standards and you shouldn’t vote based on what top athletes, actors or radio personalities tell you to anyway.
