Saskatchewan reported its second-highest single-day total of new COVID-19 cases Tuesday.
The Ministry of Health said there were 81 new cases, which is one fewer than the record number reported last Thursday.
The total Tuesday marked the 11th straight day the province had reported at least 54 new cases. The province has implemented new restrictions in hopes of limiting the potential spread of the virus.
The cases reported Tuesday were in the Saskatoon area (29), the north-central area (16), the northwest (14), the Regina region (10), the central-east (six), the northeast (three), the far northwest (one) and the far northeast (one) areas. The hometown of one of the new cases is pending.
Nine cases reported Monday that didn’t have hometowns have been assigned to the north-central (four), northwest (three), northeast (one) and Regina (one) areas.
The total number of cases in Saskatchewan now stands at 3,373.
There was a record number of recoveries — 97 — reported Tuesday. That increased that total so far to 2,506 people.
To date, 25 residents of the province have died after testing positive for COVID-19.
The total number of active cases being reported in Saskatchewan now stands at 842.
There are 28 people in hospital. That includes seven people in intensive care — four in Saskatoon, two in the north-central area and one in Regina.
Of the 21 people receiving inpatient care, eight are in Saskatoon, six are in Regina, five are in the north-central area and two are in the northwest zone.
The total number of cases comprises 1,627 community contacts, 816 without any known exposures, 557 that are being investigated by public health, and 373 travellers.
To date, 105 health-care workers have contracted the virus — an increase of 20 such cases since Oct. 25.
Since March, there have been 874 cases in the Saskatoon area, 712 from the north (221 northwest, 348 north-central, 143 northeast), 504 in the south (230 southwest, 215 south-central, 59 southeast), 448 from the far north (393 far northwest, 55 far northeast), 439 in the Regina region, and 391 from the central zone (197 central-west, 194 central-east).
The hometowns of five cases remain under investigation.
The total comprises 1,227 cases in the 20-to-39 age range, 954 between the ages of 40 and 59, 686 involving people 19 and under, 422 from ages 60 to 79, and 84 aged 80 and over.
There were 1,931 tests done in Saskatchewan on Monday, increasing the provincial total to date to 270,097.
