One more person has died in Saskatchewan due to COVID-19 — bringing the total to 28 deaths — and the province announced a record number of new cases on Sunday.
The person was in their 80s and was from the Saskatoon region.
There were 159 new cases announced Sunday, a single-day record for the province. The previous high was 129 on Thursday.
There are now 1,122 active cases throughout the province.
The new cases are located in the far northwest (seven), far north-central (three), far northeast (two), northwest (14), north-central (18), northeast (16), Saskatoon (48), central-west (one), central-east (11), Regina (23), southwest (five), south-central (three) and southeast (five) zones. Three new cases have pending residence information.
Thirty-two people are in hospital. Twenty-five people are receiving inpatient care including one in the far northwest, two in the northwest, seven in the north-central, nine in the Saskatoon region, five in Regina and one in the southwest zones.
Seven people are in intensive care; one in the north-central region, four in Saskatoon and two in Regina.
There were 21 new recoveries announced on Sunday, bringing that total to 2,747 since the pandemic hit.
Potential Saskatoon COVID superspreader exposure
The province is alerting the public about a possible superspreader event at City Centre Bingo (310 22nd St. West) in Saskatoon at any time on Oct. 24.
Those in attendance who since the date currently have symptoms of COVID-19 are advised to immediately self-isolate and seek testing.
