An 18-year-old Regina man was sentenced Tuesday to 15 months probation for his role in a gang rape in Regina in February of 2019.
The teen, who can’t be named under the Youth Criminal Justice Act, also was given a two-year firearms ban and was ordered to perform 100 hours of community service.
Having been sentenced on a charge of sexual assault, he also was ordered to provide a sample for the DNA registry.
The teen was one of five boys charged in the case. He’s the second one to be sentenced.
Earlier this summer, a boy who’s now 15 years old pleaded guilty to sexual assault causing bodily harm and was sentenced to 10 months in open custody. The Crown has appealed that sentence.
The other three boys — one of whom is now 14 years old, one’s who now 16 and one who’s now 17 — were convicted of sexual assault causing bodily harm in trials earlier this year. Their sentencing hearings are set for Nov. 19.
According to court documents filed during the 15-year-old’s sentencing, the victim, a 14-year-old girl, was invited to the house of one of the accused. When she arrived, several young men were in the basement watching TV and playing video games.
Shortly after she got to the house, one of the boys went to talk to the others and then the girl’s ordeal began. She was held down on a bed in the basement and stripped, then sexually assaulted multiple times by at least five boys.
The five accused were arrested in the days following the incident.
