The Saskatchewan Health Authority is implementing visitation restrictions at a number of facilities in Regina starting Friday due to COVID-19.
In a media release Thursday, the authority said visits to the Wascana Rehabilitation Centre, all long-term care homes and all personal care homes in the city will be restricted to compassionate care reasons only.
The limitations will be reassessed in two weeks.
Compassionate care reasons include family or support persons visiting those needing end-of-life care or long-term care residents whose quality of life or care needs are unmet. No one else is allowed into the facilities until the SHA deems it’s safe to do so.
“The decision to restrict family presence is not taken lightly,” the release said. “These measures are in place to keep you, your loved ones, and health-care workers safe. The Saskatchewan Health Authority is asking the public for their support and co-operation in order to contain the spread of the virus.”
Similar limitations are in place in SHA-operated facilities in Saskatoon. There also have been outbreaks in some Saskatchewan care homes, including one in Indian Head.
