The Masters rarely disappoints.
For non-golf fans, maybe this year did with no dramatic finish, as Dustin Johnson strolled along the back nine with what looked like ease to a record 20-under for the tournament and a five-shot victory.
But for golf fans, there was plenty there to chew on. For one, Tiger Woods made the average hacker feel somewhat better when he posted a 10 on the par-3 12th hole.
The Canadian story was a good one with rookie Nick Taylor and former champ Mike Weir making the cut. And there was a top-10 finish and an automatic invite to next year’s Masters for Corey Conners.
Johnson’s story is fantastic. It was a long time coming for the world’s No. 1 to don the green jacket, from leaving the game because of addiction to a complete redo of his game, to a runner-up. Also, remember the one year he had to withdraw because of falling down the stairs the week of the Masters, having to withdraw.
Now he’s the champion.
But if nothing else, the 2020 Masters gave golf fans a bit of normalcy, despite missing the traditional roars on Sunday.
