For Regina Crime Stoppers, talk isn’t cheap.
The group has launched an online 50/50 lottery, with proceeds going to the fund it uses to reward tipsters.
Crime Stoppers says the COVID-19 pandemic has impacted sponsors and their volunteers’ ability to fundraise in traditional ways. The organization doesn’t receive government funding.
“We are not in an immediate crisis, but as volunteers, we also have an obligation to plan to ensure our charity is sustainable,” Crime Stoppers president Craig Perrault said in a news release.
The lottery is to run until Dec. 10. Tickets will cost $10, $20 or $50.
Crime Stoppers says those buying tickets need to be in the Regina area at the time of purchase but will still be eligible for the grand prize if their address is outside the city on the draw date.
The public also can donate online or through the CanadaHelps.org platform.
