A pot of food burning on a stove helped the Regina Police Service lay charges against a 19-year-old Regina man.
According to a police media release, a patrol unit was dispatched Tuesday at about 4 p.m., to assist Regina Fire and Protective Services and paramedics at an apartment in the 1400 block of Angus Street. A fire alarm was going off and smoke was coming out of a doorway.
The cause turned out to be a pot that had been left on the stove. The resident of the apartment wasn’t hurt.
However, emergency personnel who entered the apartment told officers about what police called “suspicious-looking materials” inside. The officers arrested the man and got a search warrant.
As a result of the search, the 19-year-old is facing charges of making or possession of explosive substances, possession of a firearm or ammunition contrary to a prohibition order, and failing to comply with a disposition.
He was to make his first court appearance Wednesday afternoon.
