If you find articles of warm clothing hanging from trees in downtown Regina or wrapped around a park bench, there’s a chance those items are not lost.
Angels4Warmth, a non-profit group in Regina, has been making hats, scarves and gloves and leaving them for those in need to pick them up.
According to Ruth Barlow, one of the group’s members, the group produced more than 13,000 items last year and is still expected to break 10,000 this winter.
“I’m a sewer, a quilter, a knitter, I don’t crochet. So anything that you can do that will provide some warmth and some assistance for those that might need it gives you warm fuzzy feelings and provides warmth for those that need it,” Barlow said during the Greg Morgan Morning Show on Monday morning.
Each item comes with a tag indicating it is a gift from the group.
Barlow said the articles will stay out for a little longer. Afterwards, they will be removed and redistributed.
About 40 non-profits and charities have requested clothing, she said.
“The remainder that isn’t allocated to the specific requests for the month are divvied up equally between Salvation Army, Carmichael Outreach and Rainbow Youth,” she said.
