The RCMP’s Major Crimes Unit South is investigating the death of a one-year-old boy in Canora.
According to an RCMP media release Monday, officers from the Canora detachment were called Saturday just after 1 a.m., to a house in the town for a report of a child needing urgent medical attention.
Officers and paramedics tried to resuscitate the child, but the toddler was pronounced dead at the scene.
“Based on the nature of the injuries sustained by the infant and initial investigation by police, Saskatchewan RCMP Major Crimes Unit South (MCU-S) were called to assist and have taken carriage of the investigation,” the Mounties’ release said.
An autopsy was to take place in Saskatoon on Monday. The child’s next of kin have been notified and RCMP Victim Services are offering support to the family.
Canora is about 50 kilometres north of Yorkton.
