COVID-19 is causing the two curling clubs in Regina to pause their seasons.
The Highland Curling Club alerted its members a COVID incident took place at the rink between Nov. 13 and 15 during the Assante Wealth Management Seniors and Masters event.
According to the Government of Saskatchewan website, an outbreak was declared at the Highland on Friday. Outbreaks are confirmed when two or more positive cases are identified in non-household settings.
On the Highland’s website, the club said it was an isolated event and a team had pulled out of the tournament after experiencing flu-like symptoms.
“Early in the week we received word from the team that pulled out that they were tested for Covid-19 and were in fact positive,” the statement said. “Since that time, we slowly started hearing that several more players from teams that were experiencing symptoms also went and got tested and they too came back with positive results.”
The Highland Club put its season on hold for two weeks and will resume on Dec. 7. The club said a deep cleaning will be done.
On Facebook, the Caledonian Curling Club alerted members that due to the outbreak at the Highland, it will be suspending play for one week out of an abundance of caution.
The club said there are players who might play at both clubs.
The Callie is to hold a board meeting Sunday to determine the next steps.
