8:30 – The Saskatchewan Government is expected to announce new COVID-19 measures this afternoon, and many are calling for a lockdown and the closure of non-essential businesses in order to curb the spread of the deadly virus. Manitoba has closed all non-essential businesses and banned gatherings inside homes, and Alberta also banned social gatherings but stopped short of ordering businesses closed. We want to know where you stand, so we’re putting the question to you in one of Gormley’s patented Reality Checks: Is it time for a lockdown in Saskatchewan? 10:00 – The National Police Federation, which represents 20,000 RCMP officers across Canada, says the Liberal Government’s firearm bans aren’t going to curb gun violence in Canada, and called on Trudeau to introduce “evidence-based” policies to help public safety. The union wants to see gang issues addressed, more support for the Border Integrity Program, better funding for police to address crime rather than monitor licensed and regulated firearm owners, and more measures to ensure legal firearms are handled and stored safely. Jeff McGowan is a director with the NPF who helped craft the union’s policy on firearms, and he joins Gormley to tell us more.
