A commercial vehicle inspection on the Trans-Canada Highway west of Regina led to the seizure of more than 220 pounds of marijuana.
In a media release, the RCMP said officers from the White Butte detachment were contacted Wednesday just before 9:30 p.m., by the Saskatchewan Highway Patrol.
Patrol officers had stopped an eastbound semi-truck for a commercial vehicle inspection on the highway between Pense and Grand Coulee. The inspection discovered about 223 pounds of marijuana in the trailer.
The driver, a 51-year-old man from Milton, Ont., was arrested and charged with one count of possessing cannabis for the purpose of distributing and one count of possessing unstamped cannabis.
He appeared in Regina Provincial Court on Thursday and was released on conditions. He’s to make his next court appearance Feb. 17.
