For the first time in its history, the Wing in the New Year program will not be offered this year.
SGI made the announcement Friday in a media release, saying “the uncertainty around the COVID-19 pandemic resulted in the decision” to suspend free transit services on New Year’s Eve in Regina, Saskatoon, Prince Albert and Moose Jaw.
The program has been offered for more than 30 years.
“SGI is deeply appreciative of its ongoing partnership with cities and is optimistic the program will resume next year,” the release said.
Revellers are urged to find other options for a safe ride home, including designated drivers, taxis, rideshare services or transit.
