A 60th Saskatchewan resident who tested positive for COVID-19 has died.
The Ministry of Health reported Monday an individual in their 60s who lived in the Regina region had died.
Since Nov. 20, 27 Saskatchewan residents who had contracted the virus have died.
The province also reported 274 new cases and 59 recoveries Monday. An all-time high total of 143 people were in Saskatchewan hospitals due to the virus.
The new cases were in the Regina (80), Saskatoon (72), north-central (28), northwest (26), far northwest (21), southeast (12), southwest (eight), central-east (seven), far northeast (six), northeast (six), south-central (four) and far north-central (one) areas. The hometowns of three cases are being determined.
The total number of cases in Saskatchewan since March is now 10,412.
The seven-day average of daily new cases is 264, or 21.8 per 100,000 population.
The recoveries announced Monday increased that total so far to 5,589. The number of active cases now stands at 4,763, which includes 1,538 in the Saskatoon area, 1,131 in the Regina region, 547 in the north-central area and 353 in the northwest.
There are 26 people in intensive care in Saskatchewan, with 11 in Saskatoon, eight in Regina, six in the north-central zone and one in the southwest.
The 117 people receiving inpatient care are spread between the Saskatoon (48), Regina (24), southeast (19), north-central (12), northwest (nine), southwest (two), northeast (one), central-east (one) and south-central (one) zones.
The Saskatoon zone has recorded the most cases to date, with 3,138. It’s followed by the north (2,136), the Regina region (2,020), the south (1,306), the far north (1,082), and the central area (697). The residences of 33 cases remain under investigation.
The total comprises 4,300 community contacts, 3,208 cases that are being investigated by public health officials, 2,400 cases that don’t have any known exposures, and 504 travellers.
To date, 324 Saskatchewan health-care workers have contracted the virus. That number has increased by 68 in December alone.
So far, there have been 3,651 cases in the 20-to-39 age range, 2,757 from ages 40 to 59, 2,191 involving people 19 and under, 1,400 between the ages of 60 and 79, and 408 in the 80-and-over range. The ages of five cases are pending.
The 3,004 tests processed in the province on Sunday increased the total to date to 367,396.
