Two teenagers are going to a provincial youth facility for their roles in a gang rape in Regina in February of 2019.
On Friday, the boys — one of whom is now 16 and one who’s now 17 — were sentenced in Regina Youth Court. They had been found guilty of sexual assault causing bodily harm following a trial in September.
One of the teens was sentenced to 21 months of open custody, comprising 14 months in a provincial youth facility and seven months of community supervision. That’s to be followed by nine months probation.
The other youth received 15 months of open custody — 10 months in a youth facility and five months of community supervision. That too is to be followed by nine months probation.
Earlier this year, a 15-year-old boy was sentenced to 15 months of open custody and an 18-year-old received two years probation for their roles in the sexual assault. A 14-year-old boy is to be in court for sentencing on Dec. 22.
None of the boys can be named under the provisions of the Youth Criminal Justice Act.
According to court documents filed during the 15-year-old’s sentencing, a 14-year-old girl was invited to the house of one of the accused. When she arrived, several young men were in the basement watching TV and playing video games.
Shortly after the girl got to the house, one of the boys went to talk to the others and then the girl’s ordeal began. She was held down on a bed in the basement and stripped, then sexually assaulted multiple times by at least five boys.
The five accused were arrested in the days following the incident.
