The body of a 37-year-old snowmobiler who went missing on Lac La Ronge was found Sunday.
According to the Stanley Mission RCMP, officers responded Sunday at about 10:15 a.m., to a report of a man who was missing after driving his snowmobile on the lake Saturday night.
After joining local residents who were searching for the missing man along the shoreline, officers called the Saskatchewan RCMP Underwater Recovery Team to help with the search.
Within half an hour, residents of the area found the man’s body on the shore.
The police investigation has determined the man was snowmobiling Saturday night with two friends on Lac La Ronge as they tried to reach a cabin in the area. They got lost and drove over a section of thin ice, resulting in both snowmobiles going through the ice.
“The two friends were able to exit the waters and reach the cabin with minor injuries,” the RCMP said in a media release. “The 37-year-old male snowmobiler was not heard from.”
The Saskatchewan Coroners Service has ordered an autopsy.
