In the midst of an unseasonably rainy day, the City of Regina is reminding residents to sand slippery sidewalks and driveways.
The city supplies a sand and salt mixture every winter to help make walkways safer. Two new sandbox locations have been added this winter, with one in Harbour Landing and one in downtown bringing the total to 12.
The city recommends using a small pail like an ice cream bucket to pick up a supply to use at home. The mixture, 94 per cent sand and six per cent salt, helps break down snow and ice and make surfaces less slippery.
In a typical winter about 40 tonnes of the mixture is used by Reginans.
You can find the sandbox closest to you at the city’s web site.
