The Saskatchewan Chamber of Commerce is joining a Canada-wide initiative to help students find work.
Chambers of Commerce and boards of trades across the country are partnering with the employment firm Magnet to place post-secondary students in jobs that are relevant to their education. In a media release, the Sask. Chamber announced the initiative is an outgrowth of the federal government’s Student Work Placement Program (SWPP). The program will connect businesses of all sizes with students, utilizing a wage subsidy of up to $7,500 provided by the SWPP as an incentive.
“The SWPP wage subsidy is a valuable resource for our business community,” said Steve McLellan, CEO of the Saskatchewan Chamber in the release. “By hiring the next generation of talented workers, businesses will have the ability to bring on flexible workers, inject creativity and innovative thinking into their business and get assistance with preparing their business for a post-pandemic recovery.”
The initiative will also help drive student job seekers to Magnet’s online platform, ensure job postings get to qualified workers, help work towards more diverse workplaces, and more.
