Special weather statement issued for southern Saskatchewan

Environment Canada has issued a special weather statement for southern Saskatchewan.

The affected area spans across the province, from areas near Kindersley south to the U.S. border.

Environment Canada meteorologist Chris Stammers said a low pressure system moving across the northern U.S. is expected to bring mixed precipitation.

It should start to fall around noon.

“There’s going to be some rain mixed with snow and even potentially some freezing rain in there as well,” Stammers said.

“Then it’s going to last into the evening. As far as snowfall, (we’re) looking at only a couple centimetres so nothing too crazy but just remember that this is winter.”

The weather office forecasts about five centimetres of snowfall or about two inches.
