Saskatchewan has recorded its lowest daily total of new COVID-19 cases in three weeks.
In a media release Wednesday, the Ministry of Health said there were 169 new cases in the province. That’s the lowest single-day total since Nov. 25, when 164 cases were reported.
The province’s total to date stands at 12,594 cases.
For the first time in five days, there weren’t any deaths reported in the province. The death toll due to COVID in Saskatchewan remains at 98.
The new cases reported Wednesday were in the Saskatoon (38), northwest (35), Regina (30), north-central (28), far northeast (13), far northwest (three), far north-central (two), central-east (two), northeast (two), south-central (two), central-west (one), southwest (one) and southeast (one) zones.
The hometowns of 11 cases are still being determined.
The seven-day average of daily new cases fell to 243, or 20.1 per 100,000 population.
Seven cases that previously were reported have been deemed to be out-of-province residents and have been removed from Saskatchewan’s total.
There were 154 recoveries announced Wednesday, increasing that total so far to 8,283. The number of active cases being reported in the province is 4,213.
There are 124 people in hospital, including 30 in intensive care. The ICU cases are in Regina (12), Saskatoon (10), the north-central zone (six), the northwest (one) and the southwest (one).
The 94 people receiving inpatient care are in the Saskatoon (40), Regina (28), north-central (10), northwest (eight), southeast (three), far northwest (two), central-east (two) and south-central (one) areas.
The number of health-care workers to have contracted the virus thus far increased to 514. That total has more than doubled in December; there were 256 such cases at the end of November.
Of the total number of cases, 3,327 remain under investigation and 2,827 don’t have any known exposures. There also have been 5,878 cases due to community contacts and 562 due to travel.
To date, there have been 3,709 cases from the Saskatoon area, 2,766 from the north, 2,524 in the Regina region, 1,444 from the south, 1,330 in the far north, and 781 from the central zone. There are 40 cases with pending residence information.
The total comprises 4,416 cases in the 20-to-39 age range, 3,292 from ages 40 to 59, 2,672 involving people 19 and under, 1,660 between the ages of 60 and 79, and 549 in the 80-and-over range. The ages of five cases are being investigated.
The 2,270 tests processed in Saskatchewan on Tuesday increased the provincial total to date to 393,680.
