A Regina man is facing 19 gun-related charges after police searched his home Tuesday.
According to a media release, the Regina Police Service’s Street Gang Unit, along with the Street Crimes Unit, has been investigating firearms trafficking in the city. A search warrant was issued to look for guns and ammunition in a house on the 1900 block of St. John St., south of 12th Ave. in the Heritage area. Since guns were believed to be involved, the Special Weapons and Tactics Unit (SWAT) was called in to lead the search.
The release said a shotgun, a handgun, ammunition for both, and significant quantities of other ammunition was discovered. As a result, a 42-year-old Regina man is facing 19 charges in total, including:
- Two counts of careless storage of a gun,
- Two counts of possession of a weapon for a dangerous purpose,
- Two counts of unauthorized possession of a gun,
- Possessing a restricted gun with ammunition,
- Possessing a prohibited gun with ammunition,
- Two counts of possessing a weapon obtained while committing a crime,
- Nine counts of possessing a weapon contrary to a prohibition order.
The suspect made his first court appearance on Wednesday.
