A Regina man is facing a bevy of charges after a being chased by police early Sunday morning.
It was shortly after midnight when police got a call reporting a vehicle being stolen. Police were told a man and a woman had been in a house, stolen car keys, and took the vehicle.
After responding to the house, officers found the stolen vehicle on Albert St. They attempted to use a spike belt to stop the vehicle, but the driver kept going in what police describe in a media release as a reckless fashion. Officers allegedly saw the driver leave the vehicle on the 1200 block of Angus St., but the vehicle kept moving slowly — stopping only when it hit a light post.
Police say they chased the man, who refused to stop and ran away. A police dog ended up chasing and eventually biting the suspect, after which he was arrested. EMS treated the bite wound.
The RPS says their search turned up keys from a previously-reported stolen vehicle and substances police believe to be methamphetamine and fentanyl.
As a result, the suspect is facing two charges of failure to comply with a probation order, one count of possessing stolen property over $5,000 and one of possessing stolen property under $5,000, one count of theft of a vehicle, one count of possessing methamphetamine, and one count of possessing fentanyl.
