Numerous charges are now being laid following a protest in Saskatoon on Dec. 19.
About 100 protesters took to the street to voice their displeasure with the provincial government’s COVID-19 lockdowns and restrictions. After speeches at Kiwanis Park, they walked through parts of downtown. Traffic was impacted the Broadway and Traffic Bridges, with police clearing the way to allow them to move through.
Now Saskatoon Police Service (SPS) has completed an investigation into the protest. In a media release, the SPS says eight people who were “identified as key participants” have been charged for breaching public health orders.
The release also notes that four people who had previously been ticketed for breaching the order no longer have the option of paying the voluntary fine, which would have been an $2,800 cost. They will be forced to appear in court on those charges.
To date the SPS has ticketed 15 people with breaching the Public Health Act.
