Two Regina non-profit organizations are coming together to give the city’s homeless a place to stay on cold winter nights.
All Nations Hope Network and the YWCA Regina have set up a warm-up station at 3510 5th Ave., close to the intersection with Elphinstone St.
It’s an indoor space with hot drinks and warm clothes for people in need.
In a news release, the organizers said it was a necessary step, with capacity reduced for many shelters because of the pandemic.
“It’s our vision to provide a place where those battling homelessness or in unsafe housing situations have a place to get out of the cold, get something warm to drink, and stay safe,” Melissa Coomber-Bendtsen, the CEO of YWCA Regina, said in the release.
“This year, options are limited, so we are creating new ones.”
The station opens for the first time at 5 p.m Saturday, and will stay open until 9 a.m Sunday. It will stick to that schedule until Jan. 4, when it will become available 24 hours a day.
