A shooting incident at a warmup shelter has led to an attempted murder charge for a Saskatoon man.
According to a media release, several Regina Police Service officers were called to a warming shelter on Fifth Avenue around 8:30 p.m. on Friday. A caller had reported that a man was fighting with staff.
While he had left the building by the time police arrived, their investigation found that a suspect had pointed a homemade gun at someone before firing it. A “projectile,” which police were able to find, struck a window.
Police also discovered that the suspect was under a number of court orders banning him from having guns.
The man, a 35-year-old from Saskatoon, was arrested at the shelter on Sunday. He was charged with attempted murder using a gun, four counts of possessing a firearm or ammunition contrary to prohibition, and breaching his probation.
