Massive snow drifts left drivers stranded as a major winter storm blew through the Regina area Wednesday night and Thursday morning.
Some of those stranded were stuck for several hours.
“I’m all right. I’ve got the window cracked a bit and I’ve been going to the outside to the back to make sure the exhaust has been uncovered every 45 minutes or so,” Jeremy Zens said from the side of the highway east of Regina.
“I am fully stuck. There is a big drift (and) I am just waiting for a tow truck now. I have been here since 11:30 p.m. I have a DVD in my truck so that’s been handy.”
Zens was similar to Shelley Jackson, who was making her way home on Highway 11 when she ran into zero-visibility conditions near Findlater.
“I threw winter clothes in the back of the car yesterday and I am glad I did because it all came in handy. And on my way home, I picked up groceries so I had munchies to hand so I had everything I needed,” Jackson said from her car.
“Throughout the night my vehicle kept sliding from the wind so I had to keep moving the vehicle back onto the road because I didn’t want to go in the ditch.”
Others were safe in their homes but watched as the wind tore through their neighbourhoods.
Nathan Cochrane was in Harbour Landing and saw a gust blow a roof off an apartment building.
“I couldn’t believe it. I was kind of in shock. It happens, I guess, but it could have been worse,” he said.
Unfortunately, what was worse was his car. The materials landed on his vehicle parked on the street, smashing the back window and leaving several dents.
