Saskatchewan reported four more deaths due to COVID-19 on Monday as well as 290 new cases.
Two people in their 70s died — one in the Saskatoon zone and one in the far northwest. The other deaths were a person in their 60s who lived in the northeast area and a person in the 80-and-over age group who lived in the far northeast region.
The COVID-related death toll in the province is now 219.
The total number of cases in Saskatchewan to date stands at 20,562.
The new cases reported Monday were in the Saskatoon (55), far northwest (45), northwest (41), northeast (33), Regina (25), far northeast (20), north-central (13), far north-central (12), central-east (10), southeast (seven), south-central (five), southwest (two) and central-west (one) zones. The hometowns of 21 cases are unknown.
The seven-day average of new cases in the province is 291, or 24 per 100,000.
There were 142 recoveries reported, increasing that total to date to 16,078. There are 4,265 active cases being reported in the province.
The Ministry of Health said there are 210 people in hospital, matching the province’s highest total so far.
That includes 30 people in intensive care — 15 in Saskatoon, eight in Regina, three in the north-central zone, two in the northwest and one in each of the central-east and south-central areas.
The 180 people receiving inpatient care are spread between the Saskatoon (61), Regina (42), north-central (24), northwest (13), southeast (11), northeast (10), central-east (eight), far northwest (seven), far north-central (one), central-west (one), southwest (one) and south-central (one) zones.
The number of health-care workers who have contracted the virus increased to 1,146. It has risen by more than 400 cases in January; the number stood at 723 at the end of December.
There have been 7,450 cases in the 20-to-39 age group, 5,164 between the ages of 40 and 59, 4,419 involving people 19 and under, 2,600 from ages 60 to 79 and 921 in the 80-and-over age group. The ages of eight cases are being investigated.
The total number of cases includes 5,451 from the Saskatoon area, 5,375 from the north, 3,768 from the Regina region, 2,687 in the far north, 2,028 from the south, and 1,151 in the central zone. The hometowns of 102 cases are pending.
The 2,811 COVID tests processed in Saskatchewan on Sunday increased the total so far to 473,604.
There also were 2,449 COVID vaccine doses administered Sunday, raising the total in the province to date to 22,618.
Those doses were given in the southeast (792), Saskatoon (778), Regina (527), central-east (183), far northeast (104) and north-central (65) regions.
