A fifth ticket has been issued in connection with a rally in Moose Jaw on Saturday.
According to a media release from the Moose Jaw Police Service, the latest $2,800 ticket was given to “an individual who took an active role” in the protest against the government’s measures to limit the spread of COVID-19.
The rally occurred at Main Street North and Thatcher Drive West.
“Each ticket issued was for disobeying the Public Health Order to limit outdoor group sizes to 10 people or less,” the police release said. “There were in excess of 50 people at the gathering on the weekend.”
Police said two of the people who were ticketed live in Moose Jaw and they were given the option of voluntary payment of their fines.
“The other three individuals had been charged at previous rallies and were therefore not given voluntary payment options, but required to attend court in Moose Jaw on May 19, 2021 to speak to their matters,” the police said.
Similar rallies have been held in other Saskatchewan centres such as Regina and Saskatoon.
Police said their investigation is continuing and noted other charges could be laid.
