A total of 185 local businesses have taken advantage so far of the Regina Economic Recovery Grant.
Phase 1 of the program was launched in August and 141 companies received financial support to help them change their operations or services in response to COVID-19. Phase 2 has been up and running for about a month and has provided support to another 44 local businesses.
In total, $688,000 in funding has been given to Regina businesses. Ten applications so far have received the maximum grant of $25,000 that is available in Phase 2.
Accommodation and food service businesses have received 56 grants so far. Retail, arts and entertainment, and recreation services companies also have been among the companies given support.
According to a media release from the City of Regina, the money has been used for such things as renovations to help with expanded seating or takeout services, equipment for teaching online, and installing keyless entry systems.
“We’re seeing a great variety of business expenses that have been incurred as a result of the pandemic, as well as a lot of different ways that businesses are adapting in order to continue operating safely and sustainably, or just completely changing the business they deliver,” Deborah Bryden, the City of Regina’s director of assessment and property revenue services, said in the release.
“We encourage all businesses to look into the grant, and if there are any questions about criteria or eligibility, to contact the City for assistance.”
Applications can be submitted each week at the City of Regina website. A new intake period starts every Tuesday.
Grants of $1,000, $2,500, $5,000, $10,000 and $25,000 are available. They’re matching grants, meaning the recipient must contribute an equal amount of funding toward the project.
