A man who refused to self-isolate after a positive COVID-19 diagnosis was taken into custody by Regina police officers Thursday night and then shipped off to a closed-custody medical facility.
On Friday, police issued a media release saying officers were sent just after 7:30 p.m., to a downtown hotel to deal with a 36-year-old man who had left the building several times even though he was COVID-positive.
“The male was the subject of a detention order for his refusal to abide by Public Health Orders mandating him to self-isolate because of his positive COVID-19 status,” the police said.
The hotel at which the man was staying houses people who are required to self-isolate but who may not have the means or living arrangements to do so.
According to police, officers wearing full personal protective equipment took the man into custody and took him to a Regina hospital. He then was transported to a medical facility in North Battleford.
Police say they were working in consultation with the Saskatchewan Health Authority throughout.
