It might be best to cozy up indoors, as an extreme cold warning has been issued for most of the province.
A period of very cold wind chills is expected to be felt on Saturday evening, as lows in the -30’s along with winds of 10 to 15 km/h will produce extreme cold windchills of -40 or lower.
“An arctic ridge of high pressure will help clear skies over central Saskatchewan, western Manitoba and Manitoba Interlake regions tonight and Sunday morning,” Environment Canada wrote in a statement. “Temperatures are expected to moderate in the morning.
In a later release, the weather office changed the wording of the warning.
“Persons in or near this area should be on the lookout for adverse weather conditions and take necessary safety precautions. Watch for updated statements,” it said.
Environment Canada is reminding people to cover up if you are leaving the house, as frostbite can develop within minutes on exposed skin, especially with wind chill.
“If it’s too cold for you to stay outside, it’s too cold for your pet to stay outside,” they wrote.
All of central and northern Saskatchewan, including the areas around Saskatoon, Prince Albert, The Battlefords and Yorkton, is listed in the warning.
