Many areas of Saskatchewan remained under an extreme cold warning Tuesday evening.
Regions in the eastern part of the province from the U.S. border north to the Porcupine Plain area were under the warning, along with areas around Humboldt, Melfort and Prince Albert as well as in the far north.
According to Environment Canada, the warnings are a result of wind chills that were expected to be -40 C or lower. They’re expected to ease Wednesday morning.
“An Arctic ridge of high pressure continues to give frigid temperatures to the southern prairies,” the weather service said in its alert. “Temperatures in the -30s along with winds of 10 to 15 km/h will produce extreme cold wind chills of -40 or colder. Some moderation will occur on Wednesday.”
