11:00 – Canada designated 13 groups as terrorist entities yesterday, and included among a number of al Qaeda and ISIS affiliates was the so-called “Proud Boys,” a right-wing group that was allegedly involved in the US Capitol riots last month. The sanctions freeze the group’s assets and open up members to criminal sanctions, but according to former CSIS analyst Phil Gurski, the move was 100% political and won’t help in prosecution or actual counterterrorism work. Gurski joins Mike to tell us why he feels the move was about optics and not national security.

12:00 – Clearview AI is a company offering controversial facial recognition software that uses artificial intelligence to comb social media photos to aid in identification by law enforcement and other agencies. Clearview was deemed mass surveillance of Canadians by our federal privacy watchdog this week, and the software has been used by the RCMP and other large police forces here. Chad Jones is an AI expert and CEO of Push Interactions, and he joins Mike to explain how this software works, and why it’s got experts concerned.
