The extreme cold in Saskatchewan is slowing the flow of COVID-19 vaccines in the province.
For the second straight day, the Ministry of Health said the weather was one of the reasons for low vaccination numbers on Sunday.
There were 509 doses administered in the province due to what the government called “extreme weather and reporting delays.” Those kept the numbers under targeted levels.
The total number of vaccinations done to date in Saskatchewan reached 42,987.
The government also announced there were 171 new cases, 328 recoveries and two deaths due to COVID.
The deaths of a person in their 50s and an individual in their 70s — both from the northwest zone — increased the total number of COVID-related deaths in Saskatchewan to 341 since March.
Vaccination update
To date, 96 per cent of the vaccine doses that have arrived in Saskatchewan have been given.
The vaccinations done Sunday were in the far northeast (448) and far northwest (61) zones.
Second doses are to be given starting Tuesday in the far north-central region.
A shipment of 1,950 Pfizer doses is to arrive in Prince Albert on Thursday and will be used as second doses to complete Phase 1 inoculations in long-term care homes and other priority populations.
