An investigation is underway after an inmate died Monday at the Regina Provincial Correctional Centre.
The Ministry of Corrections, Policing and Public Safety said Tuesday the 38-year-old man “was found in medical distress in a holding cell in the admissions area.”
Attempts by staff and paramedics to save the man’s life were unsuccessful and he was pronounced dead at about 3:40 p.m.
The ministry said the death was not related to COVID-19.
The RCMP and the Saskatchewan Coroners Service are looking into the circumstances of the man’s death. The corrections ministry is launching its own investigation.
