The City of Regina is looking to extend people’s ice time by two weeks.
On Thursday, the city announced it would maintain 17 outdoor rinks and the speed-skating oval at Mount Pleasant Park until March 7. In most years, the city stops looking after the outdoor rinks on Feb. 21.
“This year, as part of an expanded slate of safe and accessible winter fun activities, the city is pleased to extend rink maintenance for our residents,” the city said in a media release. “This includes flooding, blading, and access to warm-up shelters.”
The city noted the plan is dependent on the weather. If it gets too warm, crews can’t flood the ice and the rinks would have to be closed.
A list of the rinks that will be maintained longer appears on the City of Regina’s website.
