Major League Baseball wants fewer home runs.
Yes, you heard me. MLB wants less of a good thing. While analytics at the plate have led to more players swinging for the fences, the recent science around the baseballs says there has been a big jump in balls heading out of the park.
So, MLB is going back to the baseball manufacturer with new specifications to try and make the baseballs travel a few feet less.
This, to me, makes no sense.
This is like the NHL, which wants more offence and more goals, suddenly saying it’s going to make the net slightly smaller.
This would be like basketball saying it will do something to ensure there is less scoring.
It’s interesting how a league that turned a blind eye to players juicing themselves to hit more home runs is now nitpicking at the baseball to see fewer home runs in the game.
And you wonder why baseball continues to see a decline in interest.
