Couples seeking romance this weekend have a chance to watch Dirty Dancing atop the Cornwall Centre in Regina.
The organizers of Summer Bash are hosting a drive-in screening Saturday night on top of the mall’s parkade as the movie is projected onto the side of the SaskTel building.
Once parked, volunteers will serve each vehicle with a charcuterie board.
Guests will also receive gifts including sweets and products from various local businesses as well as a “magical secret” that organizer Adam Hicks didn’t reveal.
“Not only are you getting one of the most magical experiences that we could think of, you’re also going to be supporting local throughout this,” Hicks said during Friday’s Greg Morgan Morning Show.
Hicks said organizers are looking to break even on the event, but any proceeds generated will go to the YWCA and its women’s shelter.
“So it’s a win-win-win all the way around and we are so excited to have couples there and to create this magical experience for everyone,” he said.
There is a disclaimer: With cold temperatures expected to continue, Hicks is encouraging people to bring blankets and stay warm rather than idling their cars.
“One of the six pillars behind every event we organize is about the environment,” Hicks said.
“We know that folks will leave your vehicles on for a bit and start them up and keep the heat on, especially with how cold it’s looking. We’re just going to try and encourage as much as we can to help the environment out and not leave those vehicles running the entire time.”
But visitors shouldn’t have to worry about privacy. Hicks promises service that won’t ruin the mood.
“There might be some foggy windows and we’ve got to be careful here,” he said. “So what I will tell you is we have a very structured plan of when we’re going to be delivering things.”
Tickets for the screening, called Winter Heat, can be purchased online.
Gates open at 6:30 p.m., with a pre-show starting at 7:30 p.m. and the movie beginning at 8 p.m.
