Friday brought the news the Western Hockey League is good to play in Saskatchewan as Regina will be a hub city for the seven East Division teams.
And instantly the “Why not us” crowd came out. Yes, parents were frustrated to see the WHL come back while their kids are still stuck practicing in small groups with no games in sight.
But when you take a step back and look at the big picture, we’re comparing apples and oranges.
It’s not as easy as saying one hockey league is getting preferential treatment and others aren’t.
The WHL is setting up a hub city. It’s expensive and there are things these coaches and players are doing that you and your kid just don’t have the means to do.
Are parents willing to send their kid into a hotel for 60 days and pay for the testing and keep them out of school and not see them until the end of April or early May?
No.
No, you wouldn’t.
