A group of Saskatchewan-based investors are looking to build the province’s first Nordic spa.
Scandvik, a “locally formed group that has 100-plus years of leadership” in the hospitality, construction and hotel industries, is proposing to build a Scandinavian Wellness Hotel and Nordic Spa near the Willows golf course in Saskatoon.
“We couldn’t be more excited to help create a place to destress, relax and be at peace within the Saskatoon community,” Travis Batting, the president of Scandvik Hotels & Nordic Spa, said in a news release posted on the company’s website.
“It is time for Saskatoon to have that spa destination. We don’t have a full service spa currently. That is our whole goal is give something in our province and our city that people can visit and keep the money within our province.”
The proposed hotel and spa would be built on four acres of land located at the Red Barn site, a venue space at the Willows.
The 120-room hotel would complement the adult-only spa, featuring thermal pools, saunas, steam rooms and massage rooms. Fitness classes and other activities are expected to be active year-round at the site.
A restaurant with 100 seats and a three-season patio with meeting space is also part of the plan.
“We believe the Nordic Spa, which will be the first of its kind in the province will help support the tourism industry, the city’s WinterYXE strategy and providing valuable jobs and economic spinoff to both the city local businesses,” Batting said in the release.
Construction could begin this summer with an opening date in late 2022 or early 2023.
