Curler ill at Tournament of Hearts, not believed to be COVID-19

CALGARY — A game has been postponed at the Canadian women’s curling championship after a Northwest Territories curler fell ill with suspected food poisoning.

N.W.T.’s game Saturday afternoon against defending champion Kerri Einarson is postponed until Monday morning.

The sick curler has been assessed by the event’s chief medical officer and isn’t thought to have been infected with the COVID-19 virus, Curling Canada said Saturday in a statement.

“It is believed that this will not impact the team’s ability to continue in the event,” the statement said.

Members of the team have tested negative for the virus as recently as Friday, but the curler was to undergo another test Saturday.

“The Northwest Territories team will self-isolate until the results of the test are known,” Curling Canada said.
